Happy no-Thanksgiving!
When I was living in San Francisco, I listened to a lot of listener-sponsored KPFT Pacific radio. Speaking for myself, I enjoy mulling over issues that aren't familiar to me. Right or left, I like taking a stand on issues rarely discussed on CNN, etc. Native Americans were discussing why they refer to Thanksgiving as no-Thanksgiving. It is nice to use this particular day to reflect with gratitude for what is good in our lives, seems like this is something that can be done every single day without the inconvenience of not being able to go to the library, bank, etc. Don't forget that it's a day that morning people can sleep in. So, when Native Americans share an entirely different take on "gratitude," we need to listen.
Well, I'm not grateful for what has happened to Leonard Peltier. If you don't know who he is, please use your google. Thanksgiving as presented by Rockwell paintings, corporate manipulation and all the Hallmark cards in the world won't undo what all the Leonard Peltiers have survived in this great but unjust country. Healing energy to you, Mr. Peltier, you hang on. It's a new day. We have a new sheriff in town and he's very intelligent. Well, he's got a lot of book-sense, anyway. Sen. Barack Obama is showing some uncommon common sense. He won't take office until January 20, 2009 but he's already making some wise decisions. May your first morning of freedom last the eternity you have earned.
